News Release from Office of Rep Bob McDermott, R-Ewa, March 14, 2018

Brian Kolfage, the most severely wounded combat survivor in the history of the United States Air Force, a Purple Heart recipient and a 1999 graduate of Kaimuki High School, will be honored on the floor of the Hawaii House of Representatives on Friday, March 16 at Noon.

Kolfage lost both of his legs and his right hand as the result of a rocket attack in the Iraq War in 2004 and was awarded a Purple Heart. After 11 months of treatment at Walter Reed Hospital he resumed his Air Force career as a Base Security Manager at Davis Monthan AFB in Arizona.

Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords named him to her Veterans Advisory Committee and Brian was her special guest at the Presidential State of the Union Address in 2012. A Pat Tillman Scholar Award winner at the University of Arizona, Kolfage went on to earn a degree in architecture in 2014.

In 2014 Brian was honored with the George C. Lang Award, given by the Wounded Warrior Project for his outstanding work with wounded veterans. A mentor and motivational speaker, he and his wife Ashley continue to make regular trips back to Walter Reed Army Medical Center to visit with newly wounded vets to offer them hope and inspiration.

Today, Brian, Ashley and their two children make their home in Florida in a house specifically built for them by the actor Gary Sinise's Foundation.
