Assisted Suicide Bill Scheduled for Senate Hearing

Get your testimonies ready and pull out your blue shirts, its time to show up!  This is just to get the ball rolling.  More information on the specifics of the bill and talking points is forthcoming.

Measure Title: RELATING TO HEALTH.

Report Title:

Health; Our Care, Our Choice Act

Description:

Establishes a regulated process under which an adult resident of the State with a medically confirmed terminal disease and less than six months to live may choose to obtain a prescription for medication to end the patient's life. Imposes criminal sanctions for tampering with a patient's request for a prescription or coercing a patient to request a prescription. (HB2739 HD1)

WRITTEN TESTIMONYAll written testimony must clearly indicate to which committee the testimony is being submitted, your name, organization (if applicable), position (support/oppose/comments only), the measure number, and the date of the hearing.  Anonymous comments and petitions will not be categorized as testimony by the committee.  Written testimony must be submitted by 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 15th.

Please note: All testimony received by the Hawaii State Senate is posted on the Legislature’s website, which is accessible to the public.  Please do not include private information you do not want disclosed to the public.

VERBAL TESTIMONY: The committee anticipates a large volume of testimony for this hearing and would like to hear from as many individuals as possible.  Therefore, those wishing to present verbal testimony will be limited to two (2) minutes each.  The order of testimony of most individuals and organizations will be on a first come first served basis.  However, priority will be given to individuals and organizations who submit written testimony by the deadline listed above.  Please register at the table outside of conference room 229 to receive a number. 

The registration table will open at 7:45 a.m.

Seating in conference room 229 will be limited to the current group of testifiers and members of the media.  Viewing areas for all others will be available in other conference rooms.

If you require auxiliary aids or services to participate in the public hearing process (i.e. ASL or foreign language interpreter, or wheelchair accessibility), please contact the committee clerk at least 24 hours prior to the hearing so that arrangements can be made.
