Former armed robber Running for Maui Mayor

With incumbent Alan Arakawa term-limited, Maui Councilwoman Elle Cochran February 5, 2018, pulled papers to run for Mayor of Maui County.

Cochran informs readers of her campaign website that she, “went from never having voted in my life, to realizing that I can actively participate and do something.”

She doesn't mention robbing tourists at gunpoint to get money to buy drugs.

Cochran also hid her past when she first ran for council.  But her criminal record finally made it into the media during the runoff to her 2010 council campaign.  Maui Time in 2010 reported that Cochran, “decided not to talk about it.”  But the Maui News September 28, 2010 quotes Cochran as saying she will “never forget…what brought me to where I am today…." 

Maui News explains:

“Cochran, then 28 and known under her maiden name of Eleanora Kellett, was originally charged with first-degree robbery and using a firearm in the commission of a felony for the incident that occurred Nov. 27, 1993. 

According to court documents, Cochran was with Marco Antonio DeCiaccione when he accosted four tourists in the parking lot of the Lahaina Cannery Mall. DeCiaccione pointed a .38-caliber handgun at them and demanded money. 

Cochran tried to help DeCiaccione after he was apprehended by mall security and "attempted to wrestle the gun away from the security guard" before she could be subdued, according to the documents. 

DeCiaccione was later sentenced to 20 years in prison. 

Court records also indicated Cochran had previously pleaded no contest in 1993 to two counts of promoting a dangerous drug in the third degree.”

Cochran is an anti-GMO activist.  GMOs have never been shown to have harmed a single human being anywhere on Earth ever.  Lead poisoning, on the other hand, kills people all the time.  Especially hot lead. 

Also running for Mayor of Maui County are Maui County Council Member Don Guzman and former Council Members Mike Victorino and Ricordo “Rick” Medina.
