US Rep Gutierrez schools Puerto Rico Fiscal Control Board ED about Jones Act

by Michael Hansen, Hawaii Shippers Council November 13, 2017

Progressive U.S. Congressman Luis Gutierrez (D-IL-04) questioned Natalie A Jaresko, Executive Director, United States Federal Fiscal Control Board of Puerto Rico, regarding Jones Act impact at a U.S. House Natural Resources Committee oversight hearing on Puerto Rico recovery held on November 7, 2017.

Despite her crucial role in Puerto Rico recovery, Jaresko was apparently unaware of the Jones Act or its effects on the Commonwealth.

Jaresko was appointed on March 20, 2017, by President Trump to be the Executive Director of United States Federal Fiscal Control Board of Puerto Rico. It has been reported in the media that Jaresko is making $625,000 a year, in addition to traveling with a costly security detail.

Cong Guierrez is one of three U.S. Congressmen of Puerto Rican descent representing heavily Puerto Rican mainland congressional districts who are co-chairs of the newly-formed Puerto Rico Task Force of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. The other two co-chairs are Cong José E. Serrano (D-NY-15)and Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY-07).
