What: Representative Gene Ward (R-17 - Hawai‘i Kai, Kalama Valley) will be hosting a town hall to discuss:
- The origins and history of the North Korean Missile Crisis
- The potential dangers faced by the Pacific Region and how this may or may not impact our community and state
- How to prepare and know the best practices to follow if the unthinkable occurs
Hawai‘i’s Generals and disaster experts from the State Department of Defense will be available for questions.
When: Thursday, November 9th

Where: Hahaione Elementary

Background: With North Korea’s looming threat of a nuclear attack, it is important that in all aspects we are prepared. Representative Gene Ward has taken the imminent threats seriously, and has actively presented to a variety of civic and service groups interested in knowing how to best prepare for a nuclear attack.

WINDWARD DISASTER PREPAREDNESS MEETING SCHEDULED FOR NOV. 14, 2017

Honolulu – A community meeting on Emergency and Disaster Preparedness is scheduled for Tuesday, November 14, 2017 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Kailua Intermediate School cafeteria. The school is located at 145 S. Kainalu Drive in Kailua.
Hawaii Emergency Management Agency (HI-EMA) Executive Officer Toby Clairmont will give a presentation on disaster preparedness.
In addition, in light of recent concerns reading North Korean nuclear and missile tests, he will discuss what HI-EMA is doing to prepare our state for the nuclear threat, what efforts are being conducted between the counties and what steps it is taking to educate the public and our community. A question and answer period will follow the presentation.
Senator Laura Thielen, Representative Cynthia Thielen, and Representative Chris Lee, as well as the Kailua Neighborhood Board's Public Safety, Public Health and Civil Defense Committee, are co-sponsoring the meeting.
