Rail Fail: Why You Should Speak Out

Why you should speak out...

Fellow Republicans,    August 11, 2017

It is no secret that the Honolulu Rail Project is on track--no pun intended--to becoming the costliest and most mismanaged public transportation project in our nation's history! You were promised a rail system "on time and on budget" for $3-billion, and you are now told it will cost nearly $11-billion. You were promised no tax increases, yet the Caldwell Administration is now threatening a property tax hike because it has again run out of money.  Federal officials have long since recognized this boondoggle for the disaster it is and are ready to cut off funding. And so our state legislators, out of ideas and desperate for a solution that doesn't enrage voters, are now holding a special session to gather public feedback.

This coming Monday, August 14th, at the State Capitol Auditorium at 10:00am, an informational briefing will be held to allow state legislators to gather information and facts regarding the Honolulu Rail Project before the special session begins, and they would like your testimony.

If you believe in the concept of open, honest, transparent government, if you believe elected officials should be held accountable for the pledges they make, actions they take and campaign promises they break; if you believe that legislators work for the people, not the other way around: and if you believe that citizens have the right to know exactly when, where and how every last one of their tax dollars are being spent; Do not miss this opportunity to make your voices heard!

Shirlene Ostrov, Chairman, Hawaii Republican Party

Testimony may be submitted up to 24 hours prior to the start of the hearing. Testimony must be submitted via email to the Senate Committee of Transportation and Energy at: TRETestimony@capitol.hawaii.gov.
