City to hold second public workshop on Blaisdell Master Plan
News Release from City and County of Honolulu, July 10, 2017
Kaka‘ako – The Department of Enterprise Services (DES) will hold a second public workshop on Thursday, July 13, to update the community on the Blaisdell Center Master Plan.
The workshop begins at 6 p.m. in the Blaisdell Center Hawai‘i Suites. Light refreshments will be provided.
For the past two years the city has worked with a consultant team, community leaders, key stakeholders and site users on a Master Plan for the 22.4-acre Blaisdell complex. At the upcoming workshop, a summary of the Feasibility Study and Conceptual Land Use Plan will be presented, as well as preliminary concepts for the design of the campus.
Concepts being developed would:
- Retain and renovate the Arena and Concert Hall
- Provide a new Exhibition Hall and meeting rooms
- Increase parking capacity
- Add performance venues, practice facilities and community spaces
- Expand open space, water features and public programming
- Extend Victoria Street
Following the workshop, the city’s design team will incorporate public feedback into the layout of the campus, the design of the public spaces, and develop architectural concepts for both new and renovated buildings.
