Mayor Caldwell statement on Trump Administration’s decision on Paris Climate Accord
News Release from City and County of Honolulu, June 1, 2017 (Edited for accuracy.)
“The decision by the Trump Administration to withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord is an abandonment of American leadership and a threat to island communities like our own here in Hawai‘i.
As Mayor of the island of O‘ahu, which is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, we know all too well that climate change is already having impacts on our coastal infrastructure and natural resources. (Infrastructure, uh, like, uh, Rail?)
In response, my administration supported the establishment of an Office of Climate Change, Sustainability and Resiliency to ensure that we are factoring in the latest science as we design our policies and projects for the next century, and O‘ahu voters overwhelmingly supported this effort. (They will arrange their desks along the shore and part the seas like the leader of another religion did so long ago.)
We are committed to a 100 percent renewable energy future and working to reduce our emissions from city facilities and fleets. (Starting with my hot air.) My administration is dedicated to continuing on the ‘Paris path’ and I am confident that this void of federal leadership (loss of tax credits for Silicon Valley billionaire Democrat donors) will be filled by local governments, cities and mayors across the nation.”
(Paris path? Can crooked mayors escape extradition by moving to France?)
