Dog Parks: Djou on Creating Livable Communities

We know we have tremendous problems facing our community, but as mayor, my commitment to you is not just to address the very difficult issues of rail cost overruns and homelessness, but also to improve the overall quality of life on Oahu.  And, we can do it by exploring creative solutions that will result in better use of our city resources, while also reducing our overall costs.

This week we had a wonderful time meeting dog owners from around Oahu to discuss expanding the number of dog parks in our city. One option is a public-private partnership with the Hawaiian Humane Society to transform the city park behind their King street location into a community dog park. The park is currently underutilized and as a result has seen an increase in criminal activity. By working with the Hawaiian Humane Society we can provide a much-needed community benefit while at the same time reducing the city's maintenance costs.

You may recall that, as a councilmember, I worked with community members to establish the Hawaii Kai Dog Park. It is far overdue that more of our communities have parks like this, where they can enjoy time with their furry friends off-leash. So many of our families have four-legged family members, but there are only three official dog parks on Oahu, and none on the entire Windward side of the island.

For me, it's all about people.  How do we make people's lives better in our great city.  We need to end the mismanagement of the rail project, tackle homelessness effectively, provide affordable housing, fix our roads and sewers, but we also need to make sure we are considering ways to improve the quality of life for our residents. If you would like to help me, please consider making a donation here or volunteering your time.

Every contribution will be put to use immediately. With an entirely volunteer team, every dollar is spent spreading the word through advertising, and every hour is spent communicating with voters. We can do so much better for our community, but we need your help today.

Aloha,

Charles K. Djou

P.S. We only have 9 days until absentee ballots are mailed.  We don't have much time. Every contribution you make will be put to use immediately. Our community can’t wait for change and our campaign needs your help now. Please consider making a major contribution now.
