Shirlene Dela Cruz Ostrov salutes Republicans in the U.S. Congress for passing VA bill

News Release from Ostrov Campaign, September 16, 2016

Honolulu - Today, the part of me that remains connected to our uniformed Americans grieves. As a combat veteran, 68-year-old Roy Hall was entitled to the finest care in the United States. Instead, he became another victim of the VA's history of failing veterans in their time of need.

After more than 23 years of service in our armed forces, I feel a very real connection to the long line of warriors who have sacrificed for our nation.  And when a kupuna so close to home passes because their government fails them, I get angry.

This week, the Republicans in the House of Representatives tackled the challenges at the VA and lead the charge on a comprehensive bill to help ensure that veterans like Roy Hall get the benefits they've earned. I salute the Republican men and women who successfully challenged the status quo.   The bill passed with bipartisan support, though all 116 votes against the bill were from the Democrats.

I feel a keen obligation to serve our veterans and every resident of Congressional District 1, ensuring they get the benefits they need to live their best life. Hawaii has NO representation in the current Congress's majority, and some of these bills passed along party lines, leaving Hawaii's voice unheard in the broader debate. It's time to ensure Hawaii's voice is heard in the majority by sending a delegation that can speak within it and work with everyone. The people of Hawaii should have confidence that their concerns are elevated.  I welcome the opportunity to be that voice.
