Djou Reacts to State Issuing Fines on City for Sewer Spill and Failure to Maintain Infrastructure

News Release from Djou Campaign, August 6, 2016

Honolulu, HI - Congressman Charles K. Djou, candidate for Mayor of Honolulu, reacted to the state government fining the Caldwell administration for the August 2015 Waikiki/Ala Moana sewer spill for failure to properly manage the City's basic infrastructure.

"Last year's massive sewer spill off of Waikiki was an unfortunate black eye for our City.  But the inability of the mayor to address this infrastructure failure is clear negligence and shows exactly why we need new leadership at Honolulu Hale," stated Djou.  "That the State Health Department must issue penalties on the City administration to force them to do the right thing and protect the basic health and safety of our community is a reflection of poor management and a lack of leadership by Kirk Caldwell.  I join Councilmember Trevor Ozawa in demanding a full public accounting from Mayor Caldwell on all of the sewer violations and infrastructure mismanagement by the Caldwell administration."

Yesterday, news media revealed that the City faces a stiff fine for the August 2015 sewer spill off of Waikiki and Ala Moana due to incompetence and mismanagement of municipal infrastructure by the Caldwell administration.  Djou has represented Waikiki and Ala Moana as a City Councilmember and Congressman.
