OHA to enforce illegal camping restrictions in Wahiawā

HONOLULU (June 8, 2016) – The Office of Hawaiian Affairs will be enforcing its restrictions on trespassing and illegal camping on its 511-acre property in Wahiawā on June 15, 2016. OHA believes this is a health and safety issue with hazardous conditions at the site and reports of illegal activity. 

OHA and social service providers have reached out to those illegally camping on its property numerous times over the past two years to offer assistance. OHA provided official notice to those camping on the property last week. A second notice was given today and additional notices will be given next week prior to the enforcement action.

Last week, seventeen campsites were found on the property. Half of them appeared to be abandoned.  (This is what happens when OHA gets property.  They do nothing with it and the homeless move in.)

As part of the enforcement action, trash and any hazardous waste will be cleared by a contractor, grass and brush will be cut, and security patrols will monitor the site to ensure the property remains clear.
