A new report has been released by the Grassroot Institute titled 10 Free Market Solutions for Agriculture in Hawaii. The policy analysis examines the decline of agriculture in Hawaii, and recommends practical solutions to help improve agriculture in the islands.
The policy analysis highlights that since 1980, Hawaii has lost over 540,000 acres of crop and pastureland. Causes for the decline in agriculture include Hawaii’s high cost of living, transportation costs, taxation, regulation, and an environment of uncertainty. Solutions involve transforming Hawaii’s investment climate, reducing unneeded regulation, protecting property rights and lowering costs for shipping.
