Police Raid Offices of Honolulu Rail Car Supplier
Reuters: Italy's tax police searched the offices of Hitachi, Finmeccanica, and Ansaldo STS on Wednesday as part of an investigation into the acquisition by the Japanese group of a stake in Ansaldo STS, several sources said.
Prosecutors are looking into alleged collusion between Hitachi and Finmeccanica over the price paid Finmeccanica for its 40 percent stake in Ansaldo STS….
The sources said the tax police had searched Hitachi's offices in Naples, Finmeccanica's offices in Rome and Ansaldo STS offices in Genoa….
The investigation was opened at the request of Bluebell Partners, a shareholder of Ansaldo STS….

Acquisition of Honolulu rail car maker still up in the air
PBN: “the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation had expressed an interest in working with Hitachi on making its rail system better. HART Chairman Don Horner had said he hoped the new ownership would use its talents to make a more energy-efficient system. However, HART’s work with Hitachi hinges on it making a deal with Ansaldo, which has been in limbo since November last year.”

PBN March 18, 2016: An American investment fund has joined the multinational fray over Hitachi's attempted takeover of Ansaldo STS, the company with a $1.4 billion contract to provide and operate the rail cars for Honolulu’s rail transit project.
On Friday, the U.S. activist investor group, Elliott, raised its position in Ansaldo to just under 29 percent, according to Ansaldo. Back in February, Elliott had an overall stake of just 19.5 percent. The increased position gives the investment fund the power to veto any extraordinary operations proposed in shareholder meetings….
