Hawaii: Legislation that Violates Due Process Could be Voted on in the House Tomorrow

From NRA-ILA March 3, 2016

House Bill 1813 has been placed on the third reading calendar and could be voted on in the House as early as tomorrow, March 4th.  As previously reported, House Bill 1813, sponsored by state Representative Karl Rhoads, would prohibit an individual whose name appears on the deeply flawed and inaccurate “Terrorist Watchlist,” from owning or possessing firearms and ammunition.

HB 1813 completely ignores an individual’s right to due process of the law and instead allows a secret government list to determine whether or not a person can exercise their Second Amendment Rights. Persons who appear on this top secret government watchlist, generally have no idea if, when or how they were added and may have not been charged, let alone convicted of any crime.  The bill passed the House Judiciary Committee with amendments.  While the amendments attempt to address this deeply flawed legislation, it fails to consider that the terrorist watchlist is a secret list and that the federal government will never inform people when they are removed from the list, let alone placed on it.

Any legislation that seeks to remove the Constitutional rights of an individual without due process is detrimental and should be opposed.

Please contact your state Representative and politely urge him or her to oppose House Bill 1813 when it comes up for a vote.
