Representative Gene Ward (H District 17 Hawaii Kai, Kalama Valley) speaks with Dr. Sarah Park about Dengue fever.
Dr. Sarah Park is the Hawaii State Epidemiologist and Chief of the Disease Outbreak Control Division, Hawaii Department of Health. She directs all activities related to emerging infections, disease surveillance and investigations, immunizations, and public health preparedness (e.g., Hawaii’s response to the 2009 H1N1 pandemic).
Aside from her duties for Hawaii, Dr. Park serves on the National Advisory Committee on Children and Disasters, mandated by Congress to assess all issues related to children and disasters, specifically regarding the nation’s preparedness and capacity to respond, and advise the US Health & Human Services (HHS) Secretary and Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) on such.
