“We are very honored to have hosted Governor Walker last night and learned more about how he turned around Wisconsin's badly hurting state economy,” said Fritz Rohlfing, HRP State Chair. “Hawaii still faces many of the same harsh fiscal and economic realities as Wisconsin did at the start of Governor Walker's administration and the story of his success tells us that leadership matters and that one person standing on principle can make a difference."
“Gov. Walker shared with us his experiences in overcoming the 'politics-as-usual' status quo in his state and the policies he found to be most effective in benefiting the citizens of Wisconsin,” said Rohlfing.
Gov. Walker was inaugurated as Wisconsin’s 45th Governor in 2011. One of his first reforms, Act 10, helped eliminate the state’s $3.6 billion budget deficit without raising taxes and gave school districts and local governments the tools needed to balance their budgets without the massive layoffs seen in other states. Under his administration, Wisconsin has created more than 150,000 jobs and 43,000 new businesses and is ranked the 12th best state in the country for business by Chief Executive Magazine, up from 41st place prior to 2010.
Gov. Walker has won 3 elections in 4 years, becoming the first governor in American history to win a recall election, gathering more votes and a higher percentage of the total vote than in his 2010 election. He was a presidential candidate for the Republican nomination in 2015 and has since continued his focus on further reducing the tax burden for Wisconsin’s hardworking taxpayers, streamlining government, and advancing reforms that will provide more opportunity and prosperity for all.
