2016 Legislative Session:  READY, SET, GO!

From Hawaii Family Forum and Hawaii Family Advocates, January 15, 2016

It's time to gear up for the opening of the Hawaii State Legislature.  There are some things to be thankful for as we look back on 2015:

    •    No movement on physician assisted suicide

    •    Education in the community about protecting the keiki of Hawai'i from the dangers of drug abuse

    •    Working with Hawaii Family Advocates to build an allied force of organizations standing shoulder-to-shoulder to protect life

However, now is the time to get ready!  The 2016 Legislative Session Starts Wednesday, January 20th at 10:00 a.m.!  Regular sessions are limited to sixty legislative days, but they can be extended by fifteen days by the Governor of Hawaii or by the request of two-thirds of each legislative house. Section 10 of Article III of the Hawaii Constitution also mandates that the Legislature take a recess of at least five days during each regular session.

When the legislature reconvenes, 15 State Senators and 51 State House of Representative members will introduce and consider legislation that will affect our everyday family life in Hawai'i.

Even before session opens, our opponents have been collaborating with like-minded lawmakers to try to implement their plans to restrict our religious freedom in the decisions we make for our children, our businesses and our private beliefs.

This is why we need your help!  Both Hawaii Family Forum and Hawaii Family Advocates will work with elected leaders and religious freedom experts to defend our values in the legislative arena, encourage constituents to stay informed and educate Hawaii citizens on the issues of life, family and religious freedom.
