In Hawaii, single parents with two children pay about 64% of their income for infant child care, nearly the same as married couple families at the poverty line with two children, which spend 63% of their income on child care. While a married couple with an infant can affordably pay for a year of center-based care with a little over 9% of their income, this changes with the addition of a second child, as parents can expect to spend more than 20% of their income on center-based care.
