New Tracking System for Maui Bus Implemented

News Release from County of Maui

Wailuku, Maui - The Maui County Department of Transportation and Maui Bus vendor Roberts Hawaii is now offering its ridership the ability to track their bus in real-time, making catching the bus easier than ever. The Rider app by TransLoc enables users to track buses live on a map and get accurate arrival predictions for their regular stops.

The Rider app can also save their favorite stops and routes, get customized alerts as well as receive important system-wide announcements about schedule changes, detours and other up-to-the-minute alterations in service so that people can make adjustments.

"Knowing whether your bus is across town or around the corner will be a huge benefit for our riders," said Mayor Alan Arakawa. "This will save everyone valuable time and make it easier for them to plan their day."

The official app launch is today, Wednesday, November 18. The Rider app is available on iOS and Android systems.

"The idea behind the app is to give riders more control of their public transit experience," said Marc Takamori, Deputy Director of the Department of Transportation. "It is very intuitive and easy to use and puts riders in control of their schedule by minimizing the wait time and avoiding anxiety over missed buses.

The Rider app is made possible through a partnership with TransLoc, a Durham, NC., based company with a long track record of innovative transit technology. In 2013 the White House honored TransLoc with a Champions of Change award for their work. The TranLoc Rider app is currently being used by 135 agencies nationwide.

"We believe this will be a great asset for our ridership," Takamori said.

Riders will also be able to check their route status online at MauiBus.TransLoc.com. For more information check out the company website at www.TransLocRider.com.
