HAWAII DEMOCRATS PERPETUATE OLD BOY NETWORK

News Release from Hawaii Republican Party

HONOLULU (October 28, 2015) – Last week, the Hawaii Republican Party demanded Hawaii Democrats return campaign contributions from convicted felon Al Hee and his corporate entities, Waimana Enterprises and Sandwich Isles Communications. On Tuesday, US Senator Mazie Hirono and US Representative Tulsi Gabbard announced that they plan to reject political contributions they received from Hee.

"I am delighted that Senator Mazie Hirono plans to send the political contribution of $4,700 given to her by convicted felon, Mr. Al Hee to charity.  This is an acknowledgement that the issue involved was not a 'distraction' as she tried to paint it," said  former Congresswoman and immediate past State Chair, Pat Saiki.  "Besides her and Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, where are the rest of the Democrat legislators who also received such contributions? The people of Hawaii need to realize that the one-party rule in this state can easily lead to a corrupt 'old boy network' which can result in dangerous political clout," she said.

“The Hawaii Republican Party urges all other Democrats to follow Hirono and Gabbard’s example and commitment to reject the political contributions from Al Hee and his company executives,” said GOP State Chair Fritz Rohlfing. “Because of the company’s poor performance in using government money, US Senator Brian Schatz should return the contributions he received from other officials at Waimana Enterprises and Sandwich Isles as well.”

Sen. Schatz's recent remarks that he is helping Hawaiian Home Lands and customers who have Sandwich Isles Communication service rings hollow.  The reality is that Sen. Schatz has also been helping himself to thousands of dollars of questionable contributions.
