Mayor’s Remembrance Walk to be held on Sunday, September 6

Honolulu - The public is invited to join Mayor Kirk Caldwell and Honolulu’s first responders at the Mayor’s Remembrance Walk to pay tribute to the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The walk will be held on Sunday, September 6, 2015, beginning at 5 p.m. in front of the Honolulu Police Department Headquarters, located at 801 South Beretania Street. Free parking will be available at the Frank F. Fasi municipal parking lot.
The Remembrance Walk opens with a ceremony at the Honolulu Police Department Headquarters. The walk proceeds to the Honolulu Fire Department Headquarters on Queen Street for bell ringing ceremonies.
The walk culminates with ceremonies at the eternal flame in front of Honolulu Hale. Kaukaleialiʻi Akau, Olapa, will perform oli as the colors are presented. Rabbi Ken Aronowitz of Temple Emanu-El will deliver the opening blessing. The Royal Hawaiian Band will perform, followed by “Na Lei Aloha” presentation by Mayor Caldwell and attending dignitaries to honor the fallen. Hula Kahiko will be performed by Halau Hula O Maiki, under the direction of Coline Aiu, Kumu Hula.
