Tulsi Gabbard Running for Vice-President

KGI Thurs Aug 20, 2015: ...The biggest news item of the day may have been in response to a (planted) question from The Garden Island:

Would she be willing to run for vice president in the 2016 election?

Gabbard, who turns 35 next year (the minimum age required under the Constitution to serve as president) hesitated for a moment (a well-rehearsed hesitation), then gave a very clear, direct, and firm answer:

“I would, because the question that I’ve always asked myself is, where can I be in a position to make the most positive impact? That’s what motivated me to run for office at 21.”

And it is what motivated her to leave office to deploy with the military, she added. The congresswoman said that future decisions will be made in that context.

Gabbard, who is considered a rising star in the Democratic Party, said that no one has talked to her about this yet....

Gabbard continues to Talk Up Vice Presidential Run

SA Fri Aug 21, 2015: In an apparent effort to rein in (boost) speculation about her ambitions, U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard announced Thursday that running for vice president of the United States “is certainly nothing I’ve ever thought of doing.”  (Translation: She's running.)

Democrat Gabbard, who represents the 2nd Congressional District (rural Oahu, neighbor islands), issued that terse written statement (Terse = "I would consider it" x 3) after a report was published in The Garden Island newspaper on Kauai that Gabbard had said she would be “willing” to run for vice president.

“Let’s set the record straight,” Gabbard said in her statement. “A reporter asked me, if the presidential nominee (I presume Democrat) were to ask me to serve alongside him or her as vice president, would I consider it.”

“I told them I would consider it, because obviously if the Democratic presidential nominee felt I could actually contribute and be of service to the people of Hawaii and our country, then it would be disrespectful and absurd for me not to consider it,” she said.

Chatter About Gabbard Running for VP Continues into Fourth Day

Borreca, Star-Adv, Sun August 23, 2015: Candidates for president pick their vice presidential running mates — you can’t run for vice president, you have to be asked. (Wrong: You  run for VP by planting questions with friendly reporters and then letting on that you would be interested.  Duh.)

In Hawaii this week, U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard was asked about running for vice president next year.  (Because her people asked the reporter to ask the question.)

The question was asked, not by Democratic presidential hopefuls Hillary Clinton or U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, but by Kauai’s The Garden Island newspaper.  (No kidding.)

Would you be willing to run for vice president next year? the paper asked.

“I would because the question that I’ve always asked myself is where can I be in a position to make the most positive impact? That is what motivated me to run for office at 21,” Gabbard told the paper last week....
