With about 40 percent of all moving taking place during the summer, the leading personal finance website WalletHub conducted an in-depth analysis of 2015's Best & Worst Cities for Families.

In order to help American families find the ideal location to put down roots, WalletHub compared each of the 150 most populated U.S. cities across 30 key metrics. Our data set ranges from crime rates to school system rankings to housing costs.

  • The divorce rate is 3 times higher in Cleveland than in Fremont, Calif.

  • The percentage of families receiving food stamps is 20 times higher in Detroit than in Irvine, Calif.

  • The percentage of families living below the poverty line is 10 times higher in Detroit than in Overland Park, Kan.
