Ford Fuchigami to return to state Department of Transportation, Ige and Caldwell announce

News Release from Ige Campaign, November 18, 2014

HONOLULU – Governor-elect David Ige will appoint Ford Fuchigami to return to his previous role as Director of the State of Hawaii Department of Transportation.

“I’m pleased to announce that Mr. Ford Fuchigami will be joining my administration as the Director of Transportation,” said Governor-elect David Ige. “Ford proved to be a stellar administrator of one of the most complex and vital departments of the state, and I’ve asked him to return. I believe that he will be an important link to the city, working cooperatively on critical transportation projects such as rail. I appreciate his dedication to public service and his strong desire to make long-lasting contributions to Hawaii’s statewide transportation system.”

Fuchigami had been tapped by Mayor Kirk Caldwell last month to lead the city’s Department of Enterprise Services (DES).

“We worked well with Ford when he was the Interim Director at the Department of Transportation, and this move signifies a positive future working relationship between the city and state on important issues,” said Mayor Kirk Caldwell. “Ford is a hard worker and a man of great integrity and I wish him well in this significant career move. O‘ahu drivers, bus riders, bicyclists and pedestrians, and airport and harbor users will all continue to benefit from Ford’s work for the state.”

Fuchigami’s new appointment begins when Ige takes office on December 1st, and he will remain as director-designate of DES until November 28. Caldwell will announce a new DES Director appointment at a later date.
