Washington Post Debunks Takai Campaign Commercial

Takai Must Know We're Ahead ... He's Attacking

Message to Supporters from Djou Campaign  October 17, 2014

You may have received the negative mailers from the Takai campaign distorting Charles' record. This morning, our opponent took his campaign to a new low by airing negative TV commercials filled with misleading information paid for by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), the organization that spent over $1 Million distorting Charles' record in 2010.

There is only one explanation -- Takai knows he's behind in the polls and this is a desperate attempt on his part to turn the race around -- not by talking about what he'll do for the people of Hawaii, but by tearing Charles down through misleading statements about his positions and his record

Please help us now to fight back against Takai's tactics.  Sadly in politics, a lie told often enough sometimes gets mistaken for the truth.  This is exactly what Takai and his handlers are counting on - you can help us stop this from happening with a contribution today.

You can see below that Takai has no qualms about distorting the truth to win this race:

TAKAI FALSE CLAIM: Charles "voted to block more funding for schools" by opposing HR 1586

THE FACTS: Charles Djou supports Hawaii’s schools 100 percent.

Charles voted against HR 1586 because it was financed on the backs of our nation’s neediest families, stripping $12 billion from the food stamp program and taking away $1.1 billion in tax breaks for the working poor. HR 1586 cut nearly $12 billion from the federal food stamp program and another $1.1 billion from the earned income tax credit, which is a tax credit that benefits the working poor.

For more information, read an editorial from the liberal-leaning Washington Post here to understand how irresponsible Takai's position really is.

TAKAI FALSE CLAIM: Charles backs a plan "to raise the retirement age and cut benefits."

THE FACTS: Charles opposes any increase in the retirement age and any cuts to benefits for our seniors.

Charles supports working with President Obama to draw up a long-term solution to fully funding America's entitlement programs, and has stated that the recommendations of the President's bipartisan deficit reduction plan should be a starting point for discussion -- a position shared by Democratic incumbent Congresswoman Colleen Hanabusa who Djou and Takai seek to replace.

In contrast, Takai has voted to tax our seniors' pensions and supported raiding the state retirement fund to pay for bigger government spending.  Read more about Takai's flip-flop on the pension tax here.

Please help us build a community, Hawaii and America we all deserve.  Together, let's reject the negative attack politics represented by our opponent.  We have only 18 days until the election, so your help today is absolutely critical now.

PRESS RELEASE: Djou at MOAA Debate; Takai Support for Cutting Food Stamps to Pay for Bigger Government

The Djou Hawaii campaign issued the following statement related to last night's debate hosted by the Military Officers' Association of America at the Oahu Veterans' Center.

"Charles Djou again clearly articulated a plan to move Hawaii and America forward at last night's debate, while his opponent could only engage in more immature name-calling typical of D.C.," stated campaign manager Barbara Marumoto.  "Even more important, Takai said nothing about his latest negative ads where he attacks Charles for voting against H.R. 1586.  This measure cut food stamp funding for needy children and reduced the earned income taxed credit for the working poor in order to pay for bigger government.  Takai stayed silent and didn't refute that his campaign is comfortable with taking money from the poorest and most vulnerable members of society to finance more government spending."

The Takai campaign's latest TV commercial attacks Djou for having voted against H.R. 1586 (2010).  Takai implied that he would have voted in favor of this measure that was characterized as an irresponsible political stunt by the editorial board of the Washington Post because it pays for school funding by stripping money from the food stamp and earned income tax program for the poor.

Djou represented Hawaii in the U.S. House from 2010 to 2011.
