Ige Ignored Efforts For Tax Relief On Groceries
News Release from Hawaii Republican Party, October 17, 2014
Senator Ige was put on defense for his record of supporting tax increases in the final televised debate this week, and it showed. The contrast is simple: instead of prioritizing solutions for the soaring cost of living for Hawaii families, Senator Ige raised taxes and made it worse.
Just this week, the Honolulu region was ranked as having the 135th worst food prices (WalletHub, 10/15/14) in the country.
But earlier this year, when Senator Ige had a bipartisan measure to provide tax relief on groceries (SB2206, 1/16/14) before his committee, he ignored it.
"Senator Ige has been more than willing to raise taxes on Hawaii families, but when it comes to providing relief to their skyrocketing grocery bills, he won't budge. Clearly Senator Ige's policies over the past four years are taking Hawaii in the wrong direction for middle-class families struggling with the highest cost of living in the country." --Hawaii Republican Party Communications Advisor Ted Kwong
