KRP Ceases Operations for the current future - Press Release
News Release from Kalaeloa Raceway Park, 05 August 2014 14:33
It is with great sadness that we announce that Mr. George Grace III, Managing Member of Save Oahu's Race Tracks, LLC, (SORT) has lost right of possession of the property on which Kalaeloa Raceway Park (KRP) stands to the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL) after years of fighting against the current administration for fair and equal treatment.
KRP is a grassroots multi-venue motorsports facility dedicated to providing a home for motorsports enthusiasts and their families since opening in 2010. Family-friendly events such as Stock Car, Sand Drags, HulaCross, SCCA RallyCross, MotoCross, and more have been held on a regular basis since that time. With the loss of possession, the only four-wheeled motorsports venue on the island will now cease operations.
We hold Governor Neil Abercrombie and his administration directly responsible for refusing to work with KRP. Under its direction, the DHHL, Hawaiian Homes Commission, as well as the State Attorney General's Office has been unyielding and has completely refused to allow KRP to work through its issues even after being advised by the Senate Committee on Hawaiian Affairs (HWN) to do so due to DHHL's act of proven Detrimental Reliance against KRP.
This is after a comprehensive effort to support Gov Abercrombie during his 2010 election run for Governor of the State of Hawaii. He stated clearly to several KRP representatives that he would support our efforts to construct and operate a motorsports facility during a meeting on August 10th, 2010 (See attached photo). Mr. Grace actively campaigned for Abercrombie in his election bid, including driving moving billboards up and down the streets of Oahu on containers specially created for the potential Governor's campaign (See attached photo).
In return for our concentrated efforts, we have received nothing but false promises from the current administration, and as such, we can no longer support Governor Abercrombie in his quest for re-election.
We ask that all motorsports enthusiasts support Kalaeloa Raceway Park in our fight to remain open and active.
We also ask that you support the opponents of Governor Abercrombie in the upcoming election this Saturday.
KRP will continue to fight to remain open and will actively pursue our rights in our lawsuit against the DHHL.
