FILING OF FINANCIAL INTERESTS DISCLOSURE STATEMENTS BY CANDIDATES FOR STATE ELECTIVE OFFICE
News Release from Hawaii State Ethics Commission July 22, 2014
All candidates for state elective office are required by state law to file a disclosure of financial interests statement (“financial disclosure statement”) with the Hawaii State Ethics Commission. These financial disclosure statements are public records and are available for public inspection. The candidate’s financial disclosure statement includes information about a candidate’s sources of income, business ownership interests, debts, real property ownership interests, officer and director positions held in businesses, and other financial interests.
The statutory deadline for candidates to file their financial disclosure statements with the Hawaii State Ethics Commission was Friday, July 18, 2014.1 A total of 130 out of 203 candidates filed their financial disclosure statements by the deadline.
Hawaii Revised Statutes section 84-17(j) requires the Hawaii State Ethics Commission to release to the public a list of the names of all candidates who failed to file a candidate’s financial disclosure statement by the statutory deadline, and to assess a late filing penalty fee of $25 against those candidates.
