Call for nominations for the UH Board of Regents

News Release from UH July 11, 2014

HONOLULU – The Candidate Advisory Council (CAC) has initiated the recruitment process for six seats on the University of Hawai‘i Board of Regents, including four seats for immediate appointments, due to the resignations of regents Saedene Ota (Maui County), whose term would have ended on June 30, 2015; Carl Carlson (Hawai‘i County), whose term would have ended on June 30, 2016; and Tom Shigemoto (Kauaʻi County), and John Dean (City and County of Honolulu), whose terms would have ended on June 30, 2017.  These four seats will be filled on an interim basis immediately upon appointment but with duration of appointment subject to confirmation by the Hawai‘i State Senate.

For 5-year terms beginning July 1, 2015, the Governor will make appointments of two regents:  one seat from Maui County (vacated by Saedene Ota) and one seat from the City and County of Honolulu (currently filled by Regent Chuck Gee whose term ends in 2015).

Candidates for these seats must reside in the geographic area they represent.

Application materials, procedures and descriptions of regents’ responsibilities are online at http://www.hawaii.edu/rcac.  This information may also be requested by calling (808)692-1218 or by email at borapp@hawaii.edu.

Applications by August 1, 2014 are strongly encouraged.  Applications for interim appointments must be completed and submitted to the Council on or before August 15, 2014.  Applications for the 5-year appointments must be completed and submitted to the Council on or before October 31, 2014.  However, individuals applying for a 5-year appointment are strongly advised to also apply for the corresponding interim appointment.

Members of the UH Board of Regents and the Candidate Advisory Council which represents various constituent groups serve voluntarily and are not paid.
