Hope Update

From Hawaii Solutions,       January 8, 2014

Happy New Year to you and the Ohana, hope you had a wonderful holiday season!

Thank you again for your involvement in the recent special session. We want to give you an update on what has been going on since we last connected with you.

As you know we launched the Give the People Hope campaign to engage and activate people across our islands who wanted to stay involved and change the way our government operates.

We are happy to report this effort has been going great.  Here are some of the highlights:

  • Community meetings: We have participated in over 20 meetings across the state and have met hundreds of new people who are getting involved for the first time.  We are working with many regional teams and beginning this month we will begin to send out alerts about all upcoming events.

  • Calendar of events: We have created a central calendar of events and meetings where people can stay informed about upcoming events in their community.  You can also submit your event for posting on the calendar with the form at the bottom of the page.

  • Candidate recruitment: We have met or are in contact with over 40 people who are considering running for office in 2014.  The quality and character of these individuals have truly been inspiring. We are engaged with top level community, church and political leaders from across the State to vet and recruit candidates for Governor, Lt. Governor, US Senate and Congress.  This is a major priority right now and we will have more news on this soon. Remember, candidate filing is open from Feb. 3rd through June 3rd. If you are thinking about running for office and have questions, feel free to contact us.

Although there are many great things happening, there is much to do so if you are wondering what's next, here are a few action items that you can help with.

  • Help Fund the Database - We are planning to purchase and make available to activists across the State a database of registered voters in their community.  This is a critical tool that allows volunteers to identify supporters, confirm they are registered and stay in contact with them to ensure that no one misses the chance to vote in 2014.  We have donors willing to match your contribution up to $6,000 so if you can contribute $50, it will turn into $100. And if you can help with more it will be doubled. We are about halfway to our goal so please give what you can today.  Click here to contribute.

  • Spread the word! Get more people signed up - Send this link to all your friends and family who are like minded when it comes to the future of our islands. We need to get as many people engaged as possible and we can’t do that if we don't know who they are.

  • Schedule a meeting to share the vision - If you would like to get people together to learn more about registering voters, recruiting and supporting candidates or just how to get involved, let us know and we can work with you to schedule a meeting. We have been meeting with families, church organizations, community groups, and others and would be glad to meet with you and your friends and family.

We will continue to keep you informed and please let us know if you have any questions.  Mahalo for everything you are doing!

Mahalo,

Dylan Nonaka and Lani Kaaa
