Governor Releases $9.3 Million for Various CIPs Statewide

HONOLULU — Gov. Neil Abercrombie today announced the release of more than $9.3 million for various capital improvement projects (CIP) that invest in state infrastructure and facilities while further strengthening Hawaii’s economy and generating local jobs.
“These priority, long-term improvement projects, identified by members of the state Legislature, are part of a balanced and well planned state budget that continues sound fiscal management and economic strategies to ensure continued growth,” said Gov. Abercrombie. “Our collaborative efforts have set Hawaii on the right path, evidenced by Hawaii’s $1.1 billion turnaround, positive economic forecasts and an improved statewide unemployment rate of 4.4 percent, which is among the lowest in the nation.”
Allotment of funds for the following projects, identified by state legislators, has been approved by the Governor:
$4,742,845 – Department of Public Safety Facilities, Various Repairs, Alterations and Improvements, statewide – Design and construction for renovations and improvements for various facilities, including Halawa Correctional Facility, Waiawa Correctional Facility, Hawaii Community Correctional Center (Hilo), Kauai Community Correctional Center, and Women’s Community Correctional Center
$939,754 – Financial System Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), statewide – First phase project planning to reengineer and transform the statewide financial management processes by identifying the business requirements associated with and developing the required procurement action documents for a new integrated system to support state financial management activities
$819,350 – Information and Communications Services Division (ICSD) Radio Facilities, statewide – Planning, land acquisition, design, construction and equipment for repairs, upgrades and expansion of critical communications backbone systems, including the statewide Anuenue and Hawaiian microwave systems and the windward, north shore, and central Oahu radio sites
$819,000 – Kalanimoku and Kekauluohi Buildings, Oahu – Construction funds to replace the existing halon fire suppression system with a new FM-200-based fire suppression system in the basement of the Kalanimoku Building within the DAGS ICSD and at the Kekauluohi Building (State Archives)
$501,970 – Waiawa Correctional Facility, Electrical System Improvements, Oahu – Construction for electrical system upgrades, including installation of an automatic generator for use in the event of a power outage
$350,000 – Aloha Stadium, Structural and Various Health and Safety Improvements, Phase I, Oahu – Additional construction funds required for health and safety including repairs, alterations, and improvements to meet code, safety, and/or operational requirements (Additional construction funds are required for consultant services during the construction and to cover increased costs associated with addressing existing field conditions encountered thus far in the construction work)
$229,000 – King Street Annex, Oahu – Additional design and construction to replace the air handling unit and condenser serving a portion of the King Street Annex and one of the chillers at the Plant Pathology building
$256,050 – Birkhimer Tunnel, Infrastructure Improvements, Phase 3, Oahu – Additional design and construction to convert the existing overhead electrical service to underground service and infrastructure improvements at facilities tied to Birkhimer Tunnel $200,000 – Enterprise IT Infrastructure, statewide – Repair of fire suppression system in the Kalanimoku Data Center
$200,000 – High Technology Development Corporation Facility, Oahu – Additional planning funds to complete the project development report, develop site selection criteria and identify possible sites for a new facility, cost estimating, and other miscellaneous tasks for a new High Technology Development Corporation facility
$150,000 – Financial System Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), statewide – Special Deputy Attorney General Services to review and provide advice and counsel relating to the design of the statewide ERP system and associated request for proposal
$100,000 – Building 117, Kalaeloa, Oahu – Purchase and installation of closed circuit security equipment; federal matching funds in the amount of $695,000 will be used for the purchase and installation of furniture, fixtures and equipment for the facility (This allotment is part of a larger $50 million project)
$35,000 – King St. Facility, Administration Building, Oahu – Additional design and construction to repair and replace sinks, cabinets, electrical outlets, windows and other related improvements
$2,000 – Department of Public Safety Correctional Facilities, statewide – Adjustment of funds for construction to help standardize PSD 11/17 systems, which includes hardware (i.e., windows, doors, locks), and security electronics (i.e., wiring, central processing unit, cameras)
