Resignations Abound

What a week for people jumping ship! State Procurement Officer Aaron Fujioka, who was under constant attack by several Democrat politicians, gave up the position he held for years. Fujioka ruled consistently against attempts to undermine the state's procurement law, no matter how powerful the person trying to do so.
The University of Hawaii System's Executive Vice President/Provost for Academic Affairs Linda Johnsrud will step down after 25 years effective December 31, 2013, and will assume a senior leadership position with the University of Texas System in Austin. Johnsrud was rumored to be in the running for interim UH President after MRC Greenwood suddenly resigned, but she was not selected.
Coral Andrews, head of the failed Hawaii Health Exchange Connector, also surprised everyone with her resignation notice. Many criticized Andrews for failing to give information to lawmakers and for keeping data about the exchange secret.
Eva Laird Smith, Executive VP of the State Foundation of Culture & the Arts, announced she's leaving at the end of the year after a flap about the unauthorized use of a Native Hawaiian photograph for commercial purposes. Reportedly it was some union officials and politicians who wanted the talented and experienced Smith out of that job because she was too independent.
