Special Session Wrap-Up
Aloha! November 16, 2013
First, I want to thank you for getting involved in this special session. As you know, the flawed process of the special session advanced the bill quickly through the Legislature, and Governor Abercrombie signed the bill into law on Wednesday.
Even though the outcome was not what everyone wanted, the level of public participation that this issue generated was truly remarkable. Please don't be discouraged, because now more than ever, our democracy needs your voice.
I will continue to watch the law closely as its effects begin to unfold over the coming months and years. The many valid concerns raised about inadequate religious exemptions and unanswered questions now left up to the courts to decide will undoubtedly require continual fixes to the law in the future.
Again, thank you for all of your time and effort you dedicated to this issue. I look forward to working with you again on the many other important issues facing our state.
Sincerely,
Rep Beth Fukumoto
