NEW PRELIMINARY FLOOD INSURANCE RATE MAPS

News Release from City and County of Honolulu September 10, 2013

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has completed revisions to the City’s Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps (DFIRM) that will affect 12 map areas on the island.

Residents and property owners who live near the shoreline, streams, or areas that are prone to flooding, are urged to review the revised maps to see if their properties are affected by the revisions. The revisions may affect flood insurance premiums and redevelopment in certain areas.

The map revisions are in response to the City’s request to FEMA to modify and update the Special Flood Areas of the following areas: Keaahala Stream, Waialae-Nui Stream, Kawainui Marsh, Keaaulu Gulch, Malaekahana Stream, Wailele Stream, Kaupuni Stream, Mailiili Channel, Maili Channel, Waimalu Stream, Oneawa Channel, Campbell Industrial Park Drainage Canal, Halawa Stream, and Waimanalo Stream A.
