NEWS RELEASE Aug 19, 2009
COUNCILMEMBER DJOU ON HEALTH CARE REFORM
Honolulu City Councilmember Charles K. Djou (Waikiki, East Honolulu), candidate for U.S. House of Representatives, reacted to comments made by President Obama and U.S. Representative Neil Abercrombie.
“The President has correctly diagnosed America’s need for health care reform, but Congress' prescription is worse than the disease. The public continues to raise serious and legitimate concerns over the massive government expansion needed to implement Congress' healthcare proposal,” stated Councilmember Djou. “Congressman Abercrombie’s demonizing of individuals who raise these concerns is unhelpful to a constructive dialogue on health care reform.”
Djou supports health care reform, but is disappointed that the current Congressional proposal does not include medical malpractice tort reform, the sale of interstate health insurance, and individual tax deduction for health insurance. Djou's reforms would bring down the cost of health care and improve its quality without a government take over of the healthcare system.
