Cayetano’s Consumer Advocate says Left is lame but Hawai’i Free Press Has no Place

Cancellation Letter To Hawai`i Free Press: October 17, 2011

No matter how lame the left, right-wing zealotry has no place in a progressive culture.

Gregg J Kinkley

Honolulu, Oahu

Note: Kinkley was Cayetano’s Executive Director of the Division of Consumer Advocacy. Here is an article about his effort to prevent formation of the Kauai Utility Coop: Chicago lawyer Kinkley opposes formation of KIUC. While we will happily stipulate to the lameness of the left, Kinkley’s implied demand for censorship is denied. We also reject his implied claim to be arbiter of Hawaii culture and his claim to represent ‘progress’.

A Misdirected Blast from a Supporter of Abercrombie’s New Communications Director

(Editor’s Note: Hawai`i Free Press did not write the article in question. The writer is responding to an article which appeared in the October 10 Star-Advertiser, and was included in the Hawai`i Free Press News Read October 10. We’re still looking for this letter to appear in the Letters section of the Star-Advertiser.)

Dear Editor, October 17, 2011

What an ignorant article this was. As a Republican, I am embarrassed the way you attacked this fellow. Did you do any homework on him at all? So what if he is a Democrat. There are Democrats that are decent, honest Americans. You get so wrapped up in your political whims that you forget often that the people you attack are just that; people!

Here are some facts about Jim Boersema you should know.

He and Jack built the top, most professional ad agency in Hawaii.

Jim was the second highest ranking Army Reserve officer in Hawaii and was activated. Due to that he was unable and prohibited from even contacting Starr Siegle. They lost their major clients (i.e. BofH, Hawaiian Air, etc.) and went bankrupt. Serving his country he lost a fortune. By the way, he also owns Mateo's Restaurant which also went under thanks to the war and Jim being reactivated.

When the government was dealing with Tony Rutledge; the Federal Court took Unity House away from Rutledge and separated it from the union. Federal Judge Ezra personally call (sic) Jim and asked him if he would take it over and clean it up. With a lack of ongoing union revenue, sadly it is in bankruptcy. When the government needed someone to run Olelo with all of its past board problems, etc., they called Jim to take over as chairman.

Yes he had a client who was an NFL owner that wanted to apply for a casino. Again, a client!

Yes he is a 20% owner of Zanzibar.

I wonder how well you would fare under similar circumstances?

Robert Chaison

Elder Caregiver: We need Aloha, not “Death by Prescription”

Dear Editor,

I am an experienced caregiver to elderly, disabled, and seriously/terminally ill patients.

Suicide activist and physician Robert Nathanson is preying on the very people who need us most. By participating in and instigating suicide among the vulnerable, Nathanson is committing acts that are illegal, unethical, and disgraceful to the medical profession. Physician assisted suicide constitutes the worst form of medical abandonment and is a recipe for abuse of the elderly, handicapped, and helpless.

We must not become complacent in vital matters that would allow a small minority of euthanasia advocates to infringe upon our right to life. Rather than believing the lie that we somehow “need” to institutionalize death by prescription, let’s get with it and begin sharing our unique gift of aloha with those in need.

By offering life-affirming support and compassion to those in difficult circumstances, we can promote an island community that values and respects even the most defenseless members of our human ‘ohana.

Mahalo,

Janet M. Grace
