Storm Cleanup: 26,000 Remain Without Power
SA: … Communities across Hawaii began shifting into recovery Sunday after days of intense rain, flash flooding and damaging winds from a powerful Kona-low storm, but more than 26,000 residents remained without power and are being urged to prepare for continued outages. The storm battered multiple islands, causing widespread evacuations, rescues and significant damage to roads, utilities and other infrastructure.
Power outages caused by the storm could last for days as crews work to repair widespread damage across the islands, according to Hawaiian Electric. As of 9 p.m. Sunday, HECO said about 7,000 customers on Oahu, 4,600 on Maui and 14,500 on Hawaii island remained without electricity as crews continued repairing damaged transmission lines, downed poles and other equipment. At the same time, Kauai Island Utility Cooperative reported 18 active outages across Kauai.
Even as crews worked to restore power and clear storm damage, state health officials said emergency medical services continued operating statewide throughout the storm and no storm-related fatalities have been reported….
