Global Warming: Will Greens sacrifice “Sacred Cows”?

by Dennis T. Avery www.cgfi.org

Winning the war on global warming requires slaughtering some of environmentalism’s sacred cows. We can afford to ignore neither the carbon-free electricity supplied by nuclear energy nor the transformational potential of genetic engineering. . . .”

2008 Dropouts cost Hawai`i $1.4 Billion

by Sarah Holt www.all4ed.org

Washington, D.C. – If the high school dropouts from Hawai`i’s Class of 2008 had instead earned diplomas along with their classmates, the state’s economy could have benefited from an additional $1.4 billion in wages, taxes, and productivity over these students’ lifetimes...

Hawai`i Backed by 29 States on ceded lands

by Robert Thomas www.InverseCondemnation.com

The State of Washington and 28 other states have filed an amicus brief in support of the State of Hawai`i’s petition to the US Supreme Court for a writ of certiorari in the ceded lands case, Hawai`i v. Office of Hawaiian Affairs filed Apr. 29. In that case, the State seeks U.S. Supreme Court review of the decision by the Hawai`i Supreme Court in Office of Hawaiian Affairs v. Housing and Community Dev. Corp. of Hawai`i, Jan. 31.

In that decision, the Hawai`i Supreme Court, relying on the “Apology Resolution,” enjoined the State of Hawai`i from conveying 1.2 million acres of state-owned land until a political settlement is reach with Native Hawaiians about the status of that land.

July Four fireworks: “An illegal development?”

Pacific Legal Foundation

Independence Day celebrations are a summer highlight in the picturesque town of Gualala, California, on the Mendocino County coast. The Commission’s staff wants the show not to go on because staffers believe the pyrotechnics unnerve birds.

Global Warming and the Price of Gas

by John Coleman, founder, The Weather Channel

You may want to give credit where credit is due to Al Gore and his global warming campaign the next time you fill your car with gasoline, because there is a direct connection between Global Warming and four dollar a gallon gas. It is shocking, but true, to learn that the entire Global Warming frenzy is based on the environmentalist’s attack on fossil fuels, particularly gasoline. All this big time science, international meetings, thick research papers, dire threats for the future; all of it, comes down to their claim that the carbon dioxide in the exhaust from your car and in the smoke stacks from our power plants is destroying the climate of planet Earth. What an amazing fraud; what a scam.

Hawaiian Homes: Time for Change

by Sam Slom

On June 5, 2008, the state Office of Hawaiian Affairs (OHA) announced it would front $90 million to the state Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL) over the next 30 years in what was described as “a historic partnership,” uniting state land with state (taxpayer) money.

The funding would permit DHHL to deliver up to 500 residential house lots-nearly double the current rate- to Native Hawaiians hungering for a home of their own. Some state leaders were ecstatic calling this a “bold step.”

But is it?
