Gabbard Nomination ‘In Limbo’

TH: … As of Thursday evening, only Pete Hegseth, Trump’s nominee to head the Defense Department, had the date of his confirmation hearing announced — Jan. 14.

Other nominees, including two of Trump’s most controversial picks — Tulsi Gabbard, who is nominated to serve as director of national intelligence, and Kash Patel, who is nominated to serve as FBI director — are in limbo at the moment.

Senate Republican aides and strategists say Gabbard’s nomination to head the nation’s intelligence agencies faces a rocky road in the upper chamber….

A lot will depend on how Gabbard does at her one-on-one meeting with Sen. Mark Warner (Va.), the ranking Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee. That meeting is scheduled to happen Monday….

6 fireworks explosion survivors transported to mainland for further treatment

HNN: … On Saturday, six individuals with severe burn injuries from the massive Aliamanu fireworks explosion were transported to the mainland for further treatment.

They were flown to a specialized burn unit in Arizona aboard a C-17 plane.

First responders at Straub Benioff Medical Center assisted in the medical transport. Crews then went to The Queen’s Medical Center on Punchbowl St. where they helped in getting more patients.

Officials said over 30 staff accompanied the patients aboard the plane — 6 personnel per burn victim….

Collapsing Hawaii Vacation Rental Giant Signals Market Shake-Up

BH: … While the platform’s homepage continues to advertise nearly 1,000 properties, deeper checks on availability suggest the number of bookable units has often fallen below 300. This discrepancy has frustrated users, with some reporting fewer options when planning their vacations. Rob M. asked, “What’s going on with the property listings on Vacasa? There were so many before, and now there are far fewer.”

For Vacasa homeowners, the decline has been equally alarming. Darrell K., a rental owner, shared his experience: “I was losing about $1,000 a month with them, but after switching to a local manager, my bookings and profits shot way up.” This sentiment echoes across many owners who feel their properties are undervalued and poorly managed….

Another Hawaii Inmate And Guard Are Attacked At An Arizona Prison

CB: … For the second time in six months a Hawai’i inmate in a privately run Arizona prison overpowered a guard Thursday evening and seized his keys to free other prisoners.

The inmates who were released then used the keys to unlock another cell and attack another inmate, according to corrections officials. They were not identified.

The Thursday incident and a strikingly similar attack on July 27 at Saguaro Correctional Center occurred at a time when the ACLU of Hawai’i is already asking the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate conditions at the prison….

(REALLY OBVOIUS QUESTION: Are the inmates coordinating their attacks to advance ACLU litigation strategy?)
