Gov. Green 2026 reelection ‘Green Lighted’
Borreca: … According to national surveys, Green’s job performance is well liked and meets with local approval.
Green ranks sixth nationally in governor approval ratings. According to a national tally in the Star-Advertiser, he ranks in the top 10 in approval ratings compared with the rest of America’s governors.
Morning Consult, an independent pollster that conducts political polling and continues to track this year’s presidential race, placed Green sixth most popular in the nation, with a 62% approval rating that “likely reflects a solid base of support among Hawaii’s electorate,” according to news reports. The Cato Institute — which leans conservative and advocates for small government — ranked Green tied for seventh among all governors….
For Green, 54, there appears to be all green lights for another successful campaign….

Hawaii Supreme Court Just Like Trump
Shapiro: … There’s been hand-wringing from the political left about a constitutional crisis if Donald Trump ever refuses to comply with a U.S. Supreme Court ruling he doesn’t like.
Hawaii’s liberal Supreme Court did essentially that in thumbing its nose at the U.S. high court in a cheeky gun control ruling, and has gotten away with it — so far — without sign of constitutional collapse….
our legal system gives the U.S. Supreme Court the last word. Our justices know full well the U.S. Constitution isn’t overridden by the aloha spirit — whatever that means out of the mouths of lawyers.
Eddins’ artful disquisition was an entertaining read, but is it our state Supreme Court’s job to write protests or to abide by the rule of law set by the nation’s highest court, as we demand of Donald Trump?

Queen’s plans new hospital in Kailua-Kona with helipad, housing
SA: … The Queen’s Health Systems plans to build an 80-bed hospital next to the Kailua-Kona Costco on Hawaii island that would include a helipad to cut travel time to its trauma center on Oahu and, critically, construct adjacent, below-market-rate housing to recruit and retain some of the estimated 300 hospital staff, nurses and doctors.
(This is the future of work in Hawaii: Employer-provided housing.)
The campus, including a medical office building, would start to go up in two to three years on 30 acres of land Queen’s owns, with it opening perhaps five years from now, according to Queen’s President and CEO Jason Chang.
The project would cost $400 million to $500 million, with possible funding from private investments and philanthropic contributions, Queen’s said….
Based on a needs assessment funded by the state Legislature, West Hawaii’s population is expected to grow 11% over the next decade.
Last year, 22,000 patients were treated in the Kona Community Hospital’s emergency room and the number is on track to jump to 24,000 this year McGhan said.
It has its own helipad and flies about 6,000 patients each month to Queen’s trauma center on Oahu via Hawaii Life Flight medical transport crews. Most are neurological or stroke patients and “traumatic cases,” McGhan said….
