Lawless Waianae: Family targeted in mass shooting says Police, City Did Nothing After 2021 Complaints

HNN: … It happened in March 2021, during the COVID lockdown, when the Silva Dome, an illegal party barn on the 20-acre farm lot owned by Hiram and Sandra Silva, hosted a massive hip-hop concert.

The four-page letter emailed on March 23 begins: “It is with great disappointment and immense fury that I report to you what had occurred in the early morning of Sunday, March 21, 2021.”

She said a driver Keamo-Carnate said was drunk and leaving the concert smashed into their truck as the approached their driveway….

Keamo-Carnate attached videos of the concert and the parking lot a few hundred feet from the Keamo home.

The vehicle wreck, and a fight between concert goers, blocked the only way out, she wrote.

“All the cars start revving their engines, their drivers are yelling obscenities.... The driver who hit us is now sitting on a rock...with his head in his hands and blood running from his head.”

(CLUE: Waianae shows us what happens when the approach is the polar opposite of ‘broken windows’ policing.)

Keamo-Carnate said police weren’t interested in helping her family, or dealing with the convoy of apparently intoxicated drivers.

“The police are telling us, my family, to go home and they will handle the situation. They also tell the assailants to leave, without arresting or taking statements from them…We tell them, ‘Why are you letting all these people get away, they are breaking the law. You’re just brushing everything under the rug!!"….

(Now you know why Waianae is lawless.  The law is not enforced.)

The only record of the city responding … came from from a fire inspector, who emailed a request for Silva’s address, saying the department was looking into the illegal concert on the Silva property, but, “Unfortunately DPP and HPD have been unable to provide us the specific address.”

Saiki to be named Insurance Commissioner?

CB: … Gordon Ito has been a fixture for decades when it comes to insurance regulation. He has served as state insurance commissioner under four Hawaii governors and has been in the news a lot lately because of issues raised following the 2023 Maui fires and rising condominium premiums.

Ito may now be taking his expertise to Washington, D.C. This summer President Joe Biden nominated him to be the independent insurance expert on the Financial Stability Oversight Council. The council was established in 2010 under the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act to monitor the stability of America’s financial system.

Judging from Ito’s appearance in July before U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH), chair of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, he seems primed for confirmation.

“As Hawaii’s insurance commissioner, Mr. Ito has been a strong proponent for a fair and competitive insurance marketplace and for consumer protection,” Brown said at the time.

If Ito gets the six-year appointment, he will leave a big pair of slippers to fill. The Blog hears that our soon-to-be ex-House Speaker Scott Saiki is on the short list to get the gig. If Saiki were to take the job, it could be elevated to a Cabinet-level position to help work on the state’s growing insurance crises….

Lahaina Homeowners want insurers to pay more for wildfire smoke damage

WaPo: … This dangerous fire residue contaminated nearly everything in the Husseys’ packed, three-bedroom house: the insulation, carpets, clothing, furniture, even down to the old, chipped drawers in their kitchen, according to two independent experts, who also said it would take weeks of meticulous work to make this space safe again, at a cost of up to $80,000….

Rate Hikes Coming: Hamakua Energy plans to convert power plant to 100% phony ‘renewable’ fuels

HTH: … “Biodiesel is locally available today in modest quantities,” Scott Valentino, Pacific Current’s president, said Wednesday. “We are sourcing all our biodiesel through Pacific Biodiesel, so it’s all locally produced, coming from local feed stocks, waste oils from local restaurants.

(CLUE: Biodiesel is produced by Bulldozing Borneo and Murdering Orangutans.  Look it upLearn.)

“But as renewable fuels become more prevalent, there’s going to be more renewable diesel; there’s going to be more renewable naphtha. We’d be looking at the ability to burn a variety of renewable fuels.”

Both renewable diesel and renewable naphtha “are produced from the same feed stocks” as biodiesel, according to Valentine.

The U.S. Department of Energy said those include soybean oil or canola oil. The fats and oils are processed to be chemically the same as petroleum diesel. Naphtha also is produced from hydrogenated vegetable oils and can be used to produce both diesel and aviation fuels.

“The advantage of naphtha is that it’s cheaper than either diesel or oil,” Valentino said….

Honolulu Council wheels out e-bike measures

SA: … Introduced by Council members Tyler Dos Santos-Tam and Augie Tulba, the bill states an e-bike — defined as “a bicycle equipped with fully-operable pedals, a saddle or seat for the rider, and an electric motor of less than 750 watts” — should now meet requirements of one of the following classes:
