Obama working out with friend from Chicago (the Rezko Connection) President-elect Barack Obama left his vacation home in Kailua at 7:52 a.m. local time, according to the White House press pool report. He was accompanied by Eric Whitaker, a friend from Chicago vacationing with Obama. LINK: Whitaker appointed by Rezko: Whitaker's agency also got caught up in scandal. He oversaw the budget of the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board, which approves medical construction projects. Rezko and his associates controlled that board, which they used to solicit kickbacks and payoffs, according to testimony at Rezko's trial. Rezko was convicted. State's special funds do come in handy The state's appetite for creating hundreds of special funds in which to stash cash for certain purposes has often been criticized as fiscally irresponsible, so it is no small point of irony that these caches could save government from a $1 billion budget deficit.
