Hanabusa to Quit HART? -- Board OKs multi-year contract with CEO Lori Kahikina, subject to negotiations

SA: … Lori Kahikina’s position as the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation’s top executive and her leadership of the rail agency’s nearly $10 billion city Skyline project is expected to continue for the foreseeable future, following a vote of its board of director’s this afternoon.

At the same meeting, HART board Chair Colleen Hanabusa indicated — but did not fully explain — that she plans to step down as the leader of the nine-member board of directors, pending a deferred annual board leadership election that’s expected to be held later this year….

Kahikina’s contract negotiations – likely to include her personal attorney – could either involve the board’s human resources committee or possibly see two designated board members.

The contract deliberations are expected to be conducted in private and, according to Hanabusa, those negotiations are not expected “to go past August.” ….

(CLUE: In July bids will come in high for the Civic Center section of rail.)

HNN: … He said Christopher had had previous run-ins with the law, starting at a young age.

“He did an eight-year prison term when he was 17, some sexual crimes as well as robbery, stuff like that. Abuse of a household member the second time, five years,” Troy Helmer said.

He added that he and his wife raised Christopher to be a good kid, but then, “My son got bit by the drug bug and he has a drug problem and he needs help.”

Maui Police said Christopher Helmer was arrested on May 11, nearly a month before the carjacking incident, for terroristic threatening and kidnapping.

“He was allowed bail, and they posted his bail at $55,000,” Troy Helmer said. “His ex-girlfriend posted the bail, which we were not aware of.”…
