X-Mas Surprise: 27% raises for county execs

HTH: … Top Hawaii County executives will get significant pay hikes starting Jan. 1.

The vote Friday by the Salary Commission was 8-0 in favor of the raises, with one commissioner, Judy Greenbaum, excused.

(CLUE: While you are distracted by the holidays, they steal.)

The pay increases of 22.44% on New Year’s Day and another 5% effective July 1, were passed without any discussion from the commissioners.

Two of the key players in the Christmas shooting, Dae Han Moon and Lance Bermudez, were among Miske’s original co-defendants named in the 22-count racketeering indictment made public in July 2020….

Military fuel supplies could be targets in a Pacific conflict

SA: … As the defueling of the Red Hill fuel facility enters its final stages and the Navy prepares for a long cleanup and closure process, the U.S. military is looking at how it will support its vast Indo-Pacific operations without it. While it moves forward, some Chinese military intellectuals and analysts are also looking closely at U.S. military logistics in the region as tensions simmer.

The September 2023 issue of Chinese publication Xiandai Jianchuan — or Modern Ships — included an 18-page article titled “If the Japanese Destroyed the Oil Storage Tanks at Pearl Harbor,” examining the Dec. 7, 1941, surprise attack and Imperial Japan’s strategic thinking….
