Support Victims of Condo Board Retaliation
Dear Editor, Dec 7, 2023
Are condo lawyers battering rams? At the rate condo boards use their services with reckless abandon, one might be tempted to regard them as beleaguered souls. But that sympathy is grossly misplaced. For, with increasing openly accusatory claims of kickback profits for boards, there can be no question of the lucrative role of attorneys in board retaliation against condo owners - to the degree that owners lose their homes.
Condo ownership, though hardly a cruise, can be navigated through, albeit precariously, with extreme care and mostly luck - luck that an innocuous question an owner puts to a board, or unavoidable criticism and complaint, won't trigger board hiring of the association's attorney in retaliation for what the board perceives as a challenge to its authority. These are outright crimes against owners who are legion, whether they actually lose their homes or narrowly survive this loss.
In Hawaii and in other states, condo owners who have lost their properties were devastated by insurmountable demands for escalating legal charges. Neither our condo owners nor the legislators can continue to avoid confrontation with brazen board retaliation schemes against owners, and the wrongful profiteering at homeowners' expense.
The intent of this petition Stop Unjust Legal Charges to Condominium Owners is to gather support for ending this wrongful practice, and to extend this appeal to our lawmakers. Please use the link to read and sign the petition, and accept the gratitude of this writer.
Thank you very much.
