Hawaii’s Strict Gun Control Laws Do Nothing to Deter Crime Wave
KITV: … Before Oahu gun owners can start shooting things at island ranges, they have to go through a long list of requirements to be able to get a firearm: applications, permits, background checks, a review of their mental health, along with fees, completion of a gun safety course, and then a two week waiting period.
"I'm a law abiding gun owner. So I do all the things I need to do keep things on the positive side, but it is a stringent process," said Ewa Beach resident Scott Miller.
While law abiding gun owners go through that process, lately Honolulu police have seen more criminals getting their hands on guns and committing crimes.
"The increases have been significant in our eyes because they have been around 20%," said Maj. Walter Ozeki, with HPD's Criminal Investigations Division.
Many firearms used in crimes are never recovered, but police believe some may not be real handguns. According to Ozeki, those that are lethal weapons were more than likely stolen. Whether fake or real, using a gun to commit a robbery can double a potential prison sentence….
(And with Hawaii’s strict gun control laws, criminals with stolen or illegal weapons have less reason to fear their victims.)

Protesters Open ‘Hawaiian Kingdom Post Office’ on Mauna Kea
HTH: … Also today will be the opening of the “Kingdom of Hawaii Post Office” near Pu‘uhonua o Pu‘uhuluhulu.
The post office, a small structure of sticks and leaves to the east of the main camp, represents another step toward the Hawaiian Kingdom’s return to self-governance, said one of its creators, a man who calls himself “Pikachu.”
“We’re showing people that there’s nothing stopping you from building something like this on your own, if you can use (Department of Hawaiian Home Lands) land,” Pikachu said.
While there will be a brief opening ceremony today for the post office, Pikachu said it will not yet be fully operational — although how it will operate is not entirely clear. Pikachu said more information about the post office will be available at the Hawaiian Kingdom office on Mamo Street in downtown Hilo….

In a first, Hawaii tourism on track to surpass 10 million visitor arrivals this year—but they’re spending less
SA: … Through October, visitor arrivals reached nearly 8.7 million, which was 5.5% more than the 8.2 million arrivals during the same period last year. For all of last year, the total reached 9.9 million.
However, another industry benchmark — how much tourists spend while in Hawaii — could still end the year up or down.
This measure had been down for seven out of the first nine months of 2019….

Proof of Global Cooling: Hurricane season tamer than expected
HTH: … Saturday marks the official end of the 2019 hurricane season, which saw five tropical cyclones — but only one attaining hurricane strength — in the Central Pacific basin, which extends from 140 degrees west to the International Date Line and includes Hawaii.
“It was quieter than last year, and it was quieter than we expected going into this year,” said John Bravender, warning coordination meteorologist at the National Weather Service’s Honolulu office, on Tuesday, after the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the weather service’s parent agency, issued its 2019 Central Pacific hurricane season summary.
NOAA’s 2019 hurricane season outlook issued on May 22 called for five to eight tropical cyclones in the Central Pacific basin — with a 70% chance of above-normal tropical cyclone activity, a 20% chance of near-normal activity and a 10% chance of below-normal activity.
(This forecast was cited as proof of global warming. Therefore it is irrefutable that the failure of the hurricanes to develop is proof of global cooling. And we have consensus.)
The 2019 season started with an El Nino event that was expected to last through the fall. Instead, steady cooling in equatorial waters commenced early in the summer, leading to neutral conditions by the heart of the hurricane season….
