Gallup: Hawaii Again Tops Nation in Well-Being
Gallup and Healthways produce an annual report on the Well-Being of each of the 50 U.S. states, their respective communities and each of the 435 U.S. congressional districts. Every community, state, and congressional district face unique challenges and the granular level Well-Being Index data shed light on these area-specific issues, allowing leaders to build and shape policies and strategies to address the needs of their communities.
NOTE: Between 2011 and 2012 Hawaii jumped from 44th to 1st in “Work Environment” but fell from 4th to 14th in “Basic Access". Here is Gallup’s description of these two indices:
- The Work Environment Index surveys workers on several factors to gauge their feelings and perceptions about their work environment.
- The Basic Access Index is based on thirteen items measuring resident’s access to food, shelter, healthcare and a safe and satisfying place to live.
