IMPROVED BUS ROUTES FOR THE LEEWARD COAST
News Release from Councilmember Kym Pine (Dist 1--Ewa, Leeward)
(HONOLULU)—Councilmember Kymberly Marcos Pine, District One, joined Mayor Caldwell today to announce new modified bus routes affecting Leeward Coast residents.
Councilmember Pine worked with the new administration to fill a vital need by improving bus service in the wake of cuts made last summer.
“Many of the bus service cuts were ruthless and showed a lack of understanding of the devastating effects it would have on people's daily lives. The people of the Leeward Coast have the longest commute times on the island and these cuts hit us hard,” says Councilmember Pine, “I am especially pleased that the Mayor has committed to improving services for the residents of Makaha who have been suffering from up to four hour commutes. I am fully committed to work with the Council and the Administration to add more services to other needed areas.”
Councilmember Pine requested route modifications on routes that were altered in 2012 under the previous Administration. The improvements to bus route “C-Country Express” from Makaha to Ala Moana were unveiled today. Due to leaner schedules on these routes, Leeward Coast residents have endured excessive wait times and buses at full capacity on these routes.
