The purpose of this informational briefing is to hear from the Hawaii Public Housing Authority (HPHA) on the progress of repairs of public housing for use pursuant to Act 159.

 

Please inform the committee on the progress of the enactment of Act 160, an act to streamline the eviction of tenants for non-payment of rent.

 

Further report to the committee on Act 212 of 2010 about the advances made on the Housing First Program.  

 

No public testimony will be accepted.

The purpose of this informational briefing is to hear from the Department of Human Services (DHS) and members of the Hawaii Interagency Council on actions taken to implement Act 105. This act was enacted to create, by statute, the Hawaii Interagency Council on Homelessness. The HIC has been tasked with the responsibility to develop a ten year plan to address homelessness in all Hawaii counties. DHS in conjuncture with the advisement of the HIC is to conduct a study on designating safe facilities located at camping areas or partially open or closed buildings that provide at least clean eating areas, showers, toilets, laundry facilities and locker rooms in various locations throughout the State for the use of homeless persons to overnight stays.

 

The Committee wishes to hear from HIC members like the Governor’s Coordinator on Homeless, , Director of the Department of Human Services (DHS), Director of the Department of Health (DOH), Director of the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations (DLIR), Director of the Department of Public Safety (PSD), Director of the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism (DBEDT), Adjutant General of the Department of Defense (DOD), Attorney General, Department of the Attorney General, Superintendent of the Department of Education (DOE), the Mayor of the City & County of Honolulu, the Mayor of Kaua’i County, the Mayor of Hawai’i County, the Mayor of  Maui County, the Chair of Partners in Care (City & County of Honolulu).
